PGM-FI warning light

I picked up my car tonight and drove it home. It's a 1987 Prelude Si. The PGM-FI light came on after 10-15 minutes. I stopped to refuel and it was off. It came on again after 20 miles of highway driving, and stayed on the rest of the way home (about another 20 miles).

I'd like to point out that the light hadn't come on at all while test driving and during my workover of the car inspecting it.

The car does have 109000 miles. Is this something to be worried about? Anyone know? I really don't want to be taking the car to the honda stealership. I'd rather fix it myself if there's a real issue.

/Chris

Re: PGM-FI warning light

Did you just buy it? What year and gen is it? We need more info.
Never head of a PGM-FI light. Are you talking about the CEL (Check Engine Light). If it is then you can go to your local auto parts store and they can pull the code for you if it is a OBDII 96&up. If it 4th but I sure it is not because of the miles you will have to pull the code and read the number of times the CEL flashes.
109K is not a lot of miles.

Re: PGM-FI warning light

Yeah, sorry about that. The car is an 1987 Prelude Si. The relative lack of miles (for a honda) is why I bought the car.

I did a bunch of googling last night after I posted and this is what I've come up with. The ECU is behind the drivers seat - supposedly you can get access to the LED for diagnosing via the drivers side rear ashtray. Count the number of times the LED blinks and then look it up. It was too late last night to contemplate going back out. I'll investigate this morning after it gets light.

Yup, exactly what I got. I haven't fixed it yet. I've seen some people say you can pull the EGR off and check for carbon and clean the carbon out. There's supposedly a TSB regarding the whole passage getting carboned up and how to clean out, but I haven't found it yet.
