Which coolant?

Just got a 81 Prelude over the weekend. As an insurance maintenance I am planning to replace all the fluids this coming weekend. Planning to use the following:
Engine oil: 10W40
Brake/Clutch fluid: Dot 3 or Dot 4
Tranmission oil: 10W40

But I have no idea what is the right coolant for a 1st gen prelude.

Re: Which coolant?

you may wanna rethink your engine oil choice, idk much about the older ludes so i could be wrong but for the newer ones 5w30 is reccomended

Re: Which coolant?

I wouldnt use 10w40 for oil. I may be wrong cause its an older car, but my guess is it uses 5w30 or 10w30. as for the brake fluid, use dot3/dot4 that will work fine. For coolant just get a gallon of the peak coolant 50/50

Re: Which coolant?

Re: Which coolant?

I had an 82 lude for a little while. I used 10w40 and everything was good.

Re: Which coolant?

Manual recommends 10W30 or 10W40. Thanks for the info on the coolant.

Re: Which coolant?

If you're going to buy the concentrated coolant and dilute it, you should use purified water.

Re: Which coolant?

just buy a good brand 50/50 and you dont gotta worry about mixing it yourself and whether or not your water has to many chemicals in it

Re: Which coolant?

i run straight water in mine from spring until fall, leaving a little antifreeze in there to keep things lubed, works good. switch to 50/50 for winter time. the less antifreeze the cooler your engine will run.
